The choice is yours: A green card made of robust, recycled plastic (free of charge) or a unique card made of unvarnished cherry wood, sustainably grown and produced in Austria (one-time fee of 20 CHF) – the first of its kind in Switzerland.

Why a green account, exactly?

Green represents climate awareness. And we think there’s nowhere near enough of it in our industry. We want to shake things up! We’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how we could have a positive impact in this regard, and we came to the conclusion that we can only manage it with your help. neon green started as a pilot project and, thanks to your incredible support, has been offered as a standard product since 2021.

What’s so great about trees?

According to researchers at ETH Zurich, reforestation remains one of the most effective strategies for mitigating climate change. Restoring forested areas on a global scale has the potential to sequester 25% of current atmospheric carbon and slow down climate change. With our renowned partner Eden Reforestation Projects, we want to do our part to help stabilise the climate by planting trees.

By the way: Our numbers aren't pulled out of thin air. We have our neon green users to thank for the impressive number of trees planted: They’ve been busy planting trees every day and our techies have been counting them the whole time. The figure of 14 tonnes of CO₂ emitted annually by the average Swiss person is from Our World in Data. The amount of CO₂ offset by one tree is from our partner, Eden Reforestation Projects; one tree absorbs around 12 kg of CO₂ from the atmosphere per year, so, over an average lifespan of 25 years, that tree will neutralise around 300 kg of CO₂. In other words, you would need to plant 47 trees to offset the annual 14 tonnes of CO₂ emitted by each Swiss resident.

What's the deal with the wooden card?

With neon green, you can choose between the green card made from recycled plastic and the unique wooden card made from cherry wood – unique because at the time of the launch, it was the first wooden card in Switzerland. On the one hand, it is a statement for a more sustainable lifestyle – every time you take it out, you show for what you live, and what is important to you. On the other hand, the wooden card shows that a lot can be done to reduce plastic – it is made of 80% less plastic than its plasticised counterparts.
